Children's Cough Syrup Recalled Due to Microbial Contamination

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has announced a voluntary recall of "Little Remedies Honey Cough Syrup" for children due to microbial contamination. The manufacturer, Medtech Products Inc., initiated the recall after discovering the presence of *Bacillus cereus* in the product. This bacterium can cause food-borne illnesses, potentially leading to nausea, vomiting, stomach cramps, and diarrhea.

The affected product is identified by item number 7-56184-10737-9 and is packaged in a 4 fluid ounce amber bottle. The cough syrup was distributed nationwide through various retailers and online platforms between December 14, 2022, and June 4, 2025. The lot codes and corresponding expiry dates of the recalled product are: Lot # 0039 (Expiry date 11/2025), Lot # 0545 (Expiry date 01/2026), Lot # 0640 (Expiry date 02/2026), Lot # 0450 (Expiry date 05/2026), and Lot # 1198 (Expiry date 12/2026). The lot code can be found on both the bottle label and the bottom of the carton.

While no serious adverse events have been reported to date, the FDA urges consumers who possess the product to discontinue its use immediately. The FDA warns that while healthy individuals may experience only short-term illness, exposure to high levels of *Bacillus cereus* can be life-threatening. Consumers who have experienced any health issues potentially related to the recalled cough syrup should contact their healthcare provider.

For refund requests or further inquiries, consumers can contact Medtech Products Inc. via email at medicalaffairs@prestigebrands.com, through their website, or by phone at (800) 754-8853.

BNN's Perspective: The recall of children's cough syrup is a serious matter, and the FDA's prompt action is commendable. While the absence of reported serious adverse events is reassuring, the potential health risks associated with *Bacillus cereus* contamination warrant caution. Parents should heed the FDA's warnings and take appropriate action to protect their children's health.
