Jon Bernthal to Bring Punisher to Spider-Man: Brand New Day
In a surprise move, Jon Bernthal, known for his portrayal of the Punisher in Marvel television series, will join the cast of the upcoming *Spider-Man: Brand New Day*. This marks the first time Bernthal's Punisher character will appear in a Spider-Man film.
Bernthal previously played the character in Netflix's *Daredevil* and later in his own spin-off, *The Punisher*. He recently reprised the role in the Disney+ revival series *Daredevil: Born Again* and is also working on a standalone Punisher TV special for the streaming service.
The new Spider-Man film will see the return of Tom Holland as Spider-Man, along with Zendaya and Jacob Batalon, reprising their roles as MJ and Ned. Sadie Sink, from *Stranger Things*, has also joined the cast in an undisclosed role.
*Spider-Man: Brand New Day* is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Erik Sommers and Chris McKenna. The film is scheduled to begin shooting this summer. The film is set to be released on July 31, 2026.
The film follows the events of *Spider-Man: No Way Home*, which concluded with Peter Parker's identity erased from the memories of those closest to him. The new film is expected to offer a fresh start for the character.
BNN's Perspective:
The inclusion of the Punisher in a Spider-Man film is an interesting development. While the character's darker themes might seem at odds with the generally lighter tone of Spider-Man films, the potential for a compelling story is there. The success of this casting decision will depend on how well the filmmakers can balance the two characters' distinct styles and create a cohesive narrative.
