Jim Nantz Admits Limited Exposure to Bryson DeChambeau Ahead of 2026 Masters
Legendary sports broadcaster Jim Nantz, the voice of the Masters Tournament since 1989, has revealed he has not watched Bryson DeChambeau play any golf this season. DeChambeau, who signed with LIV Golf in the summer of 2022, is considered a leading contender to win the 2026 Masters.
Nantz made the admission during a pre-Masters media call, stating he has not seen DeChambeau "hit a single shot" this year. Despite this limited exposure, Nantz identified DeChambeau as his second favorite to win the green jacket, behind World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler.
DeChambeau's recent form includes back-to-back individual victories on the LIV Golf circuit, winning in Singapore and South Africa. He also defeated Jon Rahm in a playoff. Nantz, however, did not watch either of those events. He stated that his assessment of DeChambeau's form is based on YouTube videos he has watched with his son.
The first round of the 2026 Masters is scheduled to begin next Thursday.
BNN's Perspective: While it's understandable that Nantz's exposure to DeChambeau has been limited due to the golfer's involvement with LIV Golf, it underscores the ongoing challenges of covering a sport fragmented by competing leagues. Despite the lack of direct observation, Nantz's recognition of DeChambeau as a top contender highlights the golfer's undeniable talent and the potential for a compelling storyline at the upcoming Masters.
