Jennifer Lawrence & Robert Pattinson's "Die, My Love" Stuns Cannes, Earns Standing Ovation
The 78th Cannes Film Festival is buzzing, and the latest film to generate major buzz is "Die, My Love," starring Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson. The thriller, which premiered on Saturday, May 17th, earned a remarkable nine-minute standing ovation, according to Deadline, showcasing the film's powerful impact.
The film, directed by Lynne Ramsay ("We Need to Talk About Kevin"), is an adaptation of Ariana Harwicz's 2017 novel. It delves into the harrowing experience of a new mother grappling with postpartum depression and psychosis. The film is competing for the prestigious Palme d'Or award.
This marks a significant return to the spotlight for both leads. For Jennifer Lawrence, 34, "Die, My Love" is her first film since the 2023 comedy "No Hard Feelings" and puts her back in the awards conversation after her last Oscar nomination in 2016 for "Joy." She previously won the Best Actress Oscar in 2013 for "Silver Linings Playbook."
Robert Pattinson, 39, also makes a compelling return to the big screen. While discussing his role in the film, Pattinson humorously recounted his experience with a dancing scene, expressing some level of dismay for having to dance while acting.
The premiere saw Lawrence and Pattinson embracing director Lynne Ramsay and co-stars LaKeith Stanfield and Sissy Spacek during the standing ovation. While a release date for "Die, My Love" is yet to be announced, the film's reception at Cannes suggests it's one to watch.
