Jennifer Finch, the influential bassist for the rock band L7, has died at the age of 59. The news was confirmed by the band on Saturday, following Finch's courageous battle with brain cancer.

L7 announced Finch's passing in an Instagram post, expressing their profound sadness. "With a very heavy heart we announce that our beloved bandmate, friend, and fellow troublemaker Jennifer Finch has passed away today," the statement read. "She had a long courageous fight with brain cancer and was loved by many wonderful friends, musical peers and fans worldwide. We love you Jennifer."

The band further elaborated in a statement released through their representative, conveying their devastation. "We are shattered by the loss of our beloved bandmate, sister and friend Jennifer Finch, whose fierce spirit, humor and boundless creativity helped shape L7 and changed all of our lives forever. Jennifer was a true original who lived entirely on her own terms, and the impact she made on music, art and everyone lucky enough to know her cannot be measured. We love her beyond words and will carry her with us always. Rest in power our dear friend."

Earlier this month, Finch had shared that she was undergoing treatment for an aggressive form of brain cancer. Initially believed to be treatable with radiation, complications necessitated multiple surgeries, leading to significant physical limitations and requiring extensive medical care. Finch had previously been diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2011.

Due to her health, Finch was unable to participate in the U.S. leg of L7's "Last Hurrah Tour," which had been planned when she was in good health. She had requested that her bandmates proceed with the tour as scheduled.

L7 was formed in 1985, with Finch joining in 1987. Described in a 2017 Rolling Stone profile as an "ill-behaved and untrained bassist," she was credited with adding significant energy to their live performances. Finch played with the band through most of their 1990s peak, departing in 1996. Her decision to leave was influenced by her sobriety and the recent death of her father.

Beyond L7, Finch was a multifaceted artist. She played in other bands, including OtherStarPeople and the Shocker, established her own record label, Little Pusher Records, and pursued a career as a photographer. She reunited with L7 in 2015, contributing to their 2019 album, "Scatter the Rats."

A GoFundMe campaign was established by friends and family to support Finch's treatment and recovery, as well as to fund an archive of her work and a significant creative project slated for release next year.
