Jack Della Maddalena Stuns Belal Muhammad, Claims UFC Welterweight Title in Montreal Thriller
In a stunning upset, Australian Jack Della Maddalena has claimed the UFC welterweight title, defeating Belal Muhammad by unanimous decision in a thrilling match held in Montreal. The fight, which took place early Sunday morning, saw Della Maddalena, known for his striking prowess, outmaneuver Muhammad, a formidable wrestler, throughout the five rounds.
Della Maddalena's victory marks his 18th consecutive professional win and hands Muhammad his first loss in six years. The fight was a back-and-forth battle, with Della Maddalena successfully defending against Muhammad's takedown attempts and keeping the fight primarily on the feet. The final round was particularly dramatic, with Della Maddalena landing a knee strike that cut Muhammad open. Despite the injury, Muhammad pushed for a finish, but Della Maddalena weathered the storm and unleashed a flurry of punches to secure the win (48-47, 48-47, 49-46).
Following his victory, Della Maddalena, 28, expressed his desire to challenge lightweight champion Islam Makhachev, aiming to avenge his fellow Australian, Alexander Volkanovski, who lost the belt to Makhachev.
In the co-main event, Valentina Shevchenko successfully defended her flyweight title, defeating Manon Fiorot by unanimous decision. Shevchenko's right hooks caused Fiorot's nose to bleed in the first round, but the Frenchwoman fought back. Shevchenko ultimately secured the victory with a strong performance in the final rounds, including a spinning backfist and a superwoman punch.
