Madonna's Debut: A Dance-Pop Revolution

In 1982, Sire Records founder Seymour Stein, recovering from a heart infection, first heard Madonna. Listening to a demo of her debut single, "Everybody," Stein was immediately captivated. He contacted the DJ who provided the tape, Mark Kamins, and arranged a meeting with the then 24-year-old dancer-turned-musician. Shortly after, Madonna was signed to Sire Records.

The following year, Madonna's self-titled debut album was released. The album, a cohesive collection of songs, helped re-establish electronic dance-pop at the forefront of popular music. Hits like "Holiday," "Lucky Star," and "Borderline" propelled the album to success. However, the parent company, Warner Bros., initially struggled to understand how to market the artist.
