XRP: Is the Current Price a Buy?

XRP, the cryptocurrency associated with Ripple, is currently trading at $1.37, a significant drop from its peak of $3.65 in July 2025. Despite this decline, with a market capitalization of approximately $84 billion, the valuation isn't necessarily unreasonable given the coin's institutional relationships and established payments network. The primary question for potential investors is whether the current price represents a good buying opportunity.

Ripple has cultivated partnerships with over 300 financial institutions through its RippleNet platform, which utilizes the XRP Ledger. However, the connection between the network's growth and returns for XRP holders is not as strong as it may seem. While RippleNet has seen significant adoption, only about 40% of these institutions currently use XRP for settlement through Ripple's On-Demand Liquidity (ODL) service. Even when used, XRP is held for only a short period during transactions before being converted to the destination currency. This efficiency benefits institutions but doesn't necessarily create sustained buying pressure on the coin.

Furthermore, Ripple's stablecoin, RLUSD, now operates alongside XRP within Ripple Payments. Stablecoins may become the preferred settlement method, as their value remains stable during transfers, unlike XRP. This means RippleNet and its stablecoin can succeed without necessarily boosting XRP's price.

Despite these challenges, XRP's price is likely to increase over time. Spot exchange-traded funds (ETFs) holding XRP have attracted approximately $1.4 billion since their launch in November 2025. Ripple itself holds a substantial amount of XRP, providing a financial incentive to support the coin's price through various means, including partnership announcements and supply management. Additionally, XRP boasts a large and dedicated holder community.

Therefore, while XRP at $1.37 may not be overpriced, and there's no immediate need to sell for current holders, deploying new capital requires a bet on Ripple altering the protocol to make the coin more attractive to hold. Currently, there is no indication that this will happen.

BNN's Perspective: The analysis highlights the complex relationship between Ripple's network success and XRP's value. While the coin has potential, investors should carefully consider the limited direct impact of RippleNet's growth on XRP's price and the increasing role of stablecoins within the ecosystem.
