Huawei Forum Highlights AI's Role in Digital Economy

BARCELONA, Spain – Huawei recently concluded its 4th Digital Economy Development Forum at MWC Barcelona 2026, bringing together industry leaders to discuss the evolving digital landscape. The forum, attended by nearly 100 digital strategy makers and experts from various regions, focused on the theme "From Vision to Value for an Intelligent Future," with a particular emphasis on the transformative power of Artificial Intelligence (AI).

David Wang, Huawei's Executive Director of the Board, opened the event by outlining key areas crucial for the high-quality development of the global digital economy. He emphasized the need for favorable industry policies, future-oriented infrastructure, and a sustainable talent ecosystem. Wang highlighted that AI is reshaping the global economic landscape, with projections indicating AI will contribute $22.3 trillion to the global economy by 2030.

The forum underscored the shift from a "connectivity + data" model to an "AI + decision making" model. Joyce Liu, Director of Huawei's ICT Marketing Operations Department, stressed the importance of robust digital infrastructure, including networks, energy, and computing power, to support AI development. Professor Rong Ke from Tsinghua University emphasized the value of data as a key production factor in the AI age, advocating for refined digital infrastructure across all stages of data management.

The forum concluded with a consensus on the need for countries to tailor their AI development strategies to their specific circumstances to promote intelligent transformation effectively. Huawei's forum, which began in 2023, has become a platform for collaboration and innovation in the digital economy.

BNN's Perspective:

The forum's focus on AI's impact on the digital economy is timely. While the potential benefits of AI are undeniable, governments and industry leaders must carefully consider the ethical implications and potential societal impacts of widespread AI adoption. A balanced approach that fosters innovation while mitigating risks is essential for a successful transition to an intelligent future.
