Apple Unveils iOS 26: A New Era for iPhone

Apple has announced the upcoming release of iOS 26, the successor to iOS 18, marking a significant shift in the company's mobile operating system. Unveiled at the annual Worldwide Developers Conference, the new iOS introduces a fresh design language called Liquid Glass, representing the first major design overhaul since 2013.

The new operating system is slated for a fall release as a free software update. However, eager users can get an early taste of iOS 26 through the beta program, which is available now. The beta program is now free to access, a change from the previous requirement of a paid developer account.

To install the beta, users need to sign up for a free Apple developer account, enroll their device in the Apple Beta Software Program, and then download the iOS 26 Developer Beta through the device's settings. A public beta is also planned for release next month.

The iOS 26 update will be available for a wide range of iPhones, including the iPhone SE (second generation and later), iPhone 11 series, iPhone 12 series, iPhone 13 series, iPhone 14 series, iPhone 15 series, and the upcoming iPhone 16 series.

Beyond the Liquid Glass design, iOS 26 brings enhancements to Apple Maps, iMessage, and the Call app. The iPad also receives a new feature called windows.

BNN's Perspective: While the new design and features sound promising, users should approach the beta program with caution. Beta software can be unstable, and it's crucial to back up your device before installing. The free access to the beta program is a welcome move, allowing more users to experience the new features firsthand.
