Lance McCullers Jr. Receives Death Threats Targeting His Children After Rough Outing
Houston Astros pitcher Lance McCullers Jr. is facing a terrifying reality: death threats targeting his children. The threats, delivered online, came after a difficult start on Saturday night against the Cincinnati Reds, where McCullers allowed seven runs and recorded only one out.
The Astros have confirmed that the Houston Police Department and MLB security are investigating the threats. McCullers, who is a father to two young daughters, expressed his anguish, stating that the threats included disturbing language about finding and harming his children. He emphasized the emotional toll of such threats, especially as a parent.
"I understand people are very passionate and people love the Astros and love sports, but threatening to find my kids and murder them is a little bit tough to deal with," McCullers said.
Astros manager Joe Espada was visibly upset when addressing the threats, highlighting the severity of the situation. Espada condemned the threats, which also targeted McCullers' life, and expressed his frustration that such issues are being faced.
McCullers, who has battled injuries in recent seasons, is trying to return to form on the mound. He acknowledged the pressure of playing on a large stage and the added burden of dealing with these threats. He hopes for decency and the ability to focus on his job as a pitcher for the Astros.
