Google Unveils Pixel 10 Lineup with Enhanced AI and Magnetic Charging
Google has announced its latest smartphone lineup, the Pixel 10 series, featuring the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. The new phones emphasize artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and introduce magnetic charging technology, which Google calls Pixelsnap.
The standard Pixel 10 starts at $799, the Pixel 10 Pro at $999, the Pixel 10 Pro XL at $1,199, and the Pixel 10 Pro Fold at $1,799. The Pixel 10 models will be available in blue, green, a pinkish white, and black colors, while the Pro models come in gray and green.
The Pixel 10's cameras have been updated. The standard Pixel 10 now includes a 10.8MP telephoto camera, a 48MP main camera, and a 13MP ultrawide camera with a 120-degree field of view. The Pixel 10 Pro and Pro Fold models retain the camera specifications of their predecessors. Battery capacity has been increased across the board, with the 10 Pro XL at 5,200mAh, the 10 Pro at 4,870mAh, the Pixel 10 at 4,970mAh, and the 10 Pro Fold at 5,015mAh.
The Pixel 10 Pro Fold boasts an IP68 rating, making it dustproof. The hinge is redesigned for increased durability, and the folding display is more drop-resistant. The phone features a 6.4-inch outer display and an 8-inch internal screen.
All Pixel 10 phones are powered by the Tensor G5 chip, which promises improved CPU and AI performance. They incorporate magnetic rings for Pixelsnap charging, with 15W wireless charging in the standard and Pro models and 25W in the Pro Fold.
New AI features include Magic Cue, which suggests responses to messages based on information from other apps, and Camera Coach, which offers framing and composition suggestions. AI is also used to enhance image detail when digitally zooming. The phones will include a year of Google AI Pro.
Preorders are open now, with availability starting October 9th.
BNN's Perspective: While the new AI features and dustproof design are welcome additions, the price increases and incremental camera upgrades may not be enough to entice existing Pixel users to upgrade. The success of the Pixel 10 lineup will depend on how well the new AI features are integrated into the user experience.
