Sony's "Ghost of Yotei" Outpaces "Ghost of Tsushima" in Sales

Sony has revealed that its new open-world samurai adventure game, "Ghost of Yotei," has outperformed its predecessor, "Ghost of Tsushima," during the initial launch period. The company confirmed this during an earnings call, stating that "Ghost of Yotei" has "exceeded the sales of the previous title in the same period of time."

While specific sales figures for "Ghost of Yotei" were not provided, the company's statement indicates a strong performance. "Ghost of Tsushima," released in July 2020, sold over 2.4 million units in its first three days and surpassed 5 million sales within four months. By January 2022, it had exceeded 8 million copies sold.

"Ghost of Yotei," launched in October 2025, sold 3.3 million copies within its first month. Based on Sony's comparison, it is likely that "Yotei" has already surpassed the 5 million sales mark achieved by "Tsushima."

In addition to the game's success, Sony is also addressing the ongoing challenges of the global memory chip shortage. Despite these issues, which are affecting various electronics, the company is working to secure sufficient stock to meet the demand for PlayStation 5 consoles. Sony is also looking ahead to the future, with the potential launch of the PlayStation 6, which may be delayed until after 2028 as the company extends the life cycle of the PlayStation 5.

BNN's Perspective: The success of "Ghost of Yotei" is a positive sign for Sony, demonstrating the continued appeal of its exclusive titles. While the company faces external challenges, its commitment to securing console supply and planning for future releases suggests a proactive approach to maintaining its position in the competitive gaming market.
