Galaxy Snatch Late Draw Against Dynamo in Houston
HOUSTON - In a dramatic match that saw a late surge, the Galaxy managed to secure a 1-1 draw against the Houston Dynamo on Saturday night. The Dynamo took the lead in the first half, but a late goal from the Galaxy prevented a Houston victory.
Ezequiel Ponce put the Dynamo ahead in the 35th minute, scoring his career-high eighth goal. The assist came from Ondej Lingr, who recorded his fourth assist of the season.
The Galaxy, however, refused to concede defeat. Lucas Sanabria, who entered the game as a substitute in the 61st minute, found the back of the net in the ninth minute of second-half stoppage time. This was Sanabria's second goal of the season, with John Nelson providing the assist. Gabriel Pec also contributed, earning his sixth assist of the season.
The Dynamo's goalkeeper, Jonathan Bond, made three saves, while JT Marcinkowski, in his first start for the Galaxy, recorded one save. This was Marcinkowski's first appearance for the Galaxy, having previously played for the San Jose Earthquakes in 2023.
The draw leaves the Dynamo in a precarious position, as they were three points behind the Earthquakes for the final playoff spot in the Western Conference before the match. The two teams previously played to a 1-1 draw earlier in the season. Last season, each team won a home game in the series.
The Galaxy, the defending champions, continue to struggle on the road, remaining winless with a record of 0-9-6. The Dynamo's home record stands at 4-8-3.
Looking ahead, the Dynamo will travel to face the Colorado Rapids on Saturday, while the Galaxy will play the Seattle Sounders on the same day.
BNN's Perspective: This match highlights the unpredictable nature of the sport. While the Dynamo will be disappointed to concede a late goal, the Galaxy's resilience is commendable. Both teams will need to improve their consistency to make a push for the playoffs.
