Cold Snap Adds Another Layer of Hardship to Flood and Storm-Ravaged Areas

The recovery process in the central United States is facing a new challenge: a frigid cold snap. Following a week of devastating floods and tornadoes, millions are now bracing for dangerously low temperatures, adding to the already immense difficulties faced by those displaced and working to rebuild.

Frost and freeze alerts are in effect for approximately 29 million people across Missouri, northern Arkansas, West Tennessee, southern Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky, lasting through at least Tuesday morning. Fortunately, the weather forecast predicts mostly dry conditions through Wednesday, offering a window for cleanup and rebuilding. A weak system may bring light showers from Thursday into Friday, but dry weather should return shortly after. Looking ahead, warmer temperatures are expected to move into the central U.S. next week.
