Frank Gore Advances in Hall of Fame Bid

Former NFL running back Frank Gore has progressed in the selection process for the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Gore, the all-time leading rusher for the 49ers and the third-most productive rusher in NFL history, is among 52 candidates who have advanced from an initial pool of 128 nominees.

Several other former 49ers players are also in contention, including Ricky Watters and Anquan Boldin. Joining Gore in their first year of eligibility are prominent quarterbacks Drew Brees and Philip Rivers, along with wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald, center Maurkice Pouncey, and tight ends Greg Olsen and Jason Witten.

The selection process will narrow the field to 15 modern-era players, along with three seniors, one coach, and one contributor. Finalists from the previous year, including Willie Anderson, Torry Holt, Luke Kuechly, and Adam Vinatieri, have already secured their spots in the final 15, leaving 11 openings for new inductees.

Among the coaches under consideration are former 49ers coach George Seifert and former Niners assistants Mike Shanahan and Mike Holmgren. The 2026 Hall of Fame class will consist of between four and eight members. The announcement of the inductees will take place on February 7, the day before Super Bowl LX.

BNN's Perspective: The Hall of Fame selection process is always a fascinating look at the history of the game. While the inclusion of so many deserving players makes the final decisions difficult, it's a testament to the enduring legacy of these athletes. The diverse group of candidates, including those in their first year of eligibility, promises an exciting selection process.
