Former MLB Infielder Dilson Herrera Announces Retirement

Dilson Herrera, a former infielder who played parts of four seasons in Major League Baseball, has announced his retirement from professional baseball. The announcement was made via a post on his Instagram account.

Herrera, who debuted with the New York Mets in 2014, expressed his gratitude for the sport, stating that "Baseball has given me everything." He played a total of 105 games in the major leagues, representing the Mets (2014-2015), the Cincinnati Reds (2018), and the Baltimore Orioles (2020). His career statistics include a .199 batting average, 11 home runs, and 28 RBIs.

A highly touted prospect earlier in his career, Herrera participated in the MLB Futures Game in both 2013 and 2016. He was the youngest player in the league when he made his debut in August 2014. Despite his early promise, he did not appear in any postseason games, including the Mets' World Series run in 2015.

After being released by the Toronto Blue Jays in August 2021, Herrera continued his career playing in Colombia and Mexico. His final professional season in the United States was in 2022, where he played for the independent Staten Island FerryHawks of the Atlantic League.
