Florida Woman Pleads Not Guilty in Shooting at Rihanna's Home

Los Angeles, CA - A Florida woman, Ivana Ortiz, has pleaded not guilty to charges stemming from a shooting incident at Rihanna's residence earlier this month. Ortiz, 35, faces charges of attempted murder and nine counts of assault following the March 8th incident.

According to authorities, Ortiz allegedly fired an assault rifle at the property, striking an Airstream trailer, the singer's home, and a neighbor's residence. While no one was injured, Rihanna, her husband, and their three children were reportedly present at the time of the shooting. Also present were Rihanna's mother, two staff members, and two neighbors, all listed as victims in the complaint.

During a brief court hearing, Ortiz, represented by Deputy Public Defender Derek Dillman, entered a not guilty plea. Dillman requested a bail reduction due to financial constraints, but the request was denied by Judge Theresa McGonigle. The prosecution, represented by Deputy District Attorney Alex Bott, argued that Ortiz posed a threat to public safety, citing the alleged premeditation of the attack and the approximately 20 rounds fired. Bott emphasized the potential for multiple fatalities.

Ortiz remains in custody with bail set at $1.8 million. If convicted on all charges, she faces a potential life sentence in state prison. Ortiz was apprehended by Los Angeles police officers less than an hour after the shooting, reportedly in possession of the rifle, additional ammunition, and a disguise. The motive for the attack remains undisclosed by the police.

Prior to the incident, Ortiz, a licensed speech therapist, had made several angry social media posts targeting Rihanna. These posts included false claims and demands directed at the singer. Rihanna and her husband have not publicly commented on the incident.

BNN's Perspective: This case highlights the serious issue of celebrity stalking and the potential for violence. While the details are still emerging, the alleged actions of the defendant are deeply concerning. The focus should remain on ensuring the safety of all involved and allowing the legal process to run its course.
