**FDA Approves First At-Home Cervical Cancer Screening Test**

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has given the green light to Teal Health's innovative at-home test kit for cervical cancer screening, marking a significant step forward in women's health. This groundbreaking test, called the Teal Wand, allows women aged 25 to 65 at average risk to screen for human papillomavirus (HPV), the primary cause of cervical cancer, from the comfort of their homes.

The Teal Wand utilizes a vaginal swab to collect cell samples from the cervix, similar to tests already used in doctors' offices. The key difference is the convenience: patients can now order the test kit after a telehealth appointment, perform the swab at home, and mail it to a lab for analysis. This is a major advantage, as many women find in-office pelvic exams inconvenient or uncomfortable, leading to delayed or missed screenings. Studies show that a significant portion of women are behind on their cervical cancer screenings.

The test is expected to be available in California in June, with a nationwide rollout planned afterward. While the exact cost is not yet available, Teal Health anticipates insurance coverage. Early studies show high accuracy, with the test detecting cervical precancer 96% of the time. Experts believe this at-home option will increase access to screening and help women stay up-to-date with their health. A positive test result will require further testing in a doctor's office.

This FDA approval comes at a crucial time, as cervical cancer remains a serious health concern, with thousands of women diagnosed and dying from the disease each year. Increased screening uptake has been shown to significantly reduce cervical cancer incidence and mortality rates. This new at-home test offers a promising tool to improve screening rates and ultimately save lives.
