Woody Allen and Wife's Connection to Epstein Revealed in Emails
New emails released from the Department of Justice's Epstein files reveal a connection between Woody Allen, his wife Soon-Yi Previn, and the late Jeffrey Epstein. The correspondence suggests Epstein played a role in helping their daughter, Bechet Dumaine Allen, gain admission to Bard College.
Emails from Previn to Epstein, dated January 11, 2017, express gratitude for his assistance. "I can't thank you enough for getting Bechet into Bard," Previn wrote from Allen's email account. The emails also include a statement from Allen, "Woody said when Bechet sets fire to the school, they'll have you to thank."
Bechet Allen graduated from Bard in 2021. The college has an admissions rate of approximately 50 percent.
The emails, part of a larger trove of correspondence between Allen, Previn, and Epstein, span several years, including after Epstein's 2008 guilty plea to child prostitution charges. The emails show Epstein attempting to arrange a tour for Bechet with Bard's president, Dr. Leon Botstein. Previn subsequently thanked Botstein for his offer to help their daughter.
Bard College has responded to the revelations. A spokesperson for Dr. Botstein stated that the applicant was accepted based on her qualifications and that Epstein was a serial liar. The college also noted that two other family members had previously attended Bard. Dr. Botstein has previously defended interacting with Epstein for donor money, stating that the job requires interactions with a wide range of people.
The emails also reveal other interactions between Allen, Previn, and Epstein, including Epstein's attempts to help Allen cast young women in his films.
BNN's Perspective:
While the emails raise questions about the influence Epstein may have had, it's important to consider the college's statement that the daughter's admission was based on her own merits. The situation highlights the complexities of navigating the admissions process and the potential for wealthy individuals to exert influence. It also underscores the need for transparency and ethical considerations in all aspects of higher education.
