Eminem Stalker Convicted After Second Home Invasion in Clinton Township

A jury has found Matthew David Hughes, 32, guilty of first-degree home invasion and aggravated stalking after a second incident at Eminem's Clinton Township home. The verdict, delivered Wednesday afternoon, comes after a trial that began Tuesday in Macomb County Circuit Court.

Hughes was arrested last August, just three days after being spotted on the rapper's property. Unlike a 2020 incident where Hughes broke into the house and confronted Eminem, the August invasion did not involve a direct encounter. Eminem, whose legal name is Marshall Bruce Mathers, testified in the trial.

The conviction marks a significant development, especially given the context of Eminem's career. The verdict arrives 25 years after the release of "The Marshall Mathers LP," which featured the iconic song "Stan," a chilling portrayal of an obsessive fan.

Hughes was previously arrested in April 2020 for breaking into Eminem's home and was sentenced to prison after violating probation. He was released on May 15, 2024, and was on parole at the time of the recent incident. Hughes was also arrested in June 2019 for trespassing on a property previously owned by Eminem.

Hughes, who was held on a $500,000 bond, remains in custody. Sentencing is scheduled for June 17.
