ECHL: Greensboro Gargoyles Trade Veteran Forward Wade Murphy

The Greensboro Gargoyles have traded veteran forward Wade Murphy to the Greenville Swamp Rabbits. Murphy, a 32-year-old player with professional experience dating back to the 2016-2017 season, was a valuable asset to the Gargoyles, providing leadership and mentorship to the team's younger players. He played college hockey at the University of North Dakota and Arizona State University and was drafted by the Nashville Predators in the 7th round of the 2013 draft.

Murphy's professional career includes stints with the Manchester Monarchs in the ECHL, as well as playing in Norway, Slovenia, and Slovakia. He joined the Gargoyles this season after playing in Idaho last year.

In 24 games this season, Murphy recorded four goals and five assists, totaling nine points. The trade suggests that Murphy may benefit from a larger role with the Swamp Rabbits, while the Gargoyles can use the roster spot to develop younger players.

In return for Murphy, the Gargoyles are receiving a fan favorite and future considerations. The team is expected to announce the details of the return at a later date. The Gargoyles will be back in action Friday against Reading and will be back at home January 23-25, where they will be celebrating their affiliation with the NHLs Carolina Hurricanes.

BNN's Perspective:

This trade appears to be a strategic move by the Gargoyles, balancing the need for veteran leadership with the opportunity to develop younger talent. While losing a player like Murphy is a blow, the potential for future gains through the return and the development of younger players could prove beneficial in the long run.
