San Diego FC Falls to Pachuca in Leagues Cup Opener

San Diego FC (SDFC) suffered a 3-2 defeat against C.F. Pachuca in their inaugural Leagues Cup match on Tuesday. The match, played at Snapdragon Stadium, saw Pachuca dominate early, building a 3-0 lead before SDFC mounted a late, unsuccessful comeback.

Pachuca's goals came from Victor Guzmán in the 23rd minute and Alexi Dominguez, who scored twice, in the 48th minute. Dominguez's second goal proved to be the game-winner. SDFC's goals came late in the game, with Emmanuel Boateng scoring in the 88th minute and Luca Bombino finding the net in the 100th minute.

Adding to SDFC's woes, star player Anders Dreyer was ejected in the 92nd minute after receiving a red card. Dreyer's suspension will keep him out of SDFC's next match.

The match also marked a significant moment for SDFC's Hirving Lozano, a Mexican national who played against his former club, Pachuca. Lozano was substituted in the 72nd minute.

SDFC's next challenge in the Leagues Cup is against Club Tigres on Friday. Following that, they will face Mazatlan FC on August 5th.

BNN's Perspective:

While the loss is disappointing for San Diego FC, the late comeback shows a degree of resilience. The team will need to address its defensive vulnerabilities and maintain composure, especially with key players like Dreyer sidelined. The upcoming matches will be crucial in determining SDFC's progress in the tournament.
