Draymond Green Frustrated by "Angry Black Man" Narrative After Latest Technical Foul

Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green is speaking out after receiving his fifth technical foul of the playoffs, expressing frustration with what he perceives as an "agenda" to portray him as an "angry Black man." The incident occurred during the Warriors' recent playoff game against the Minnesota Timberwolves, where Green was assessed the technical after an elbow to Naz Reid.

Green, who was suspended indefinitely last season for a series of on-court incidents including stomping on Domantas Sabonis, a chokehold on Rudy Gobert, and a hit on Jusuf Nurkic, didn't hold back his feelings after the game. He stated, "Looked like the angry Black man. I'm not an angry Black man. I am a very successful, educated Black man with a great family, and I am great at basketball and great at what I do." He continued, "The agenda to try to keep making me look like an angry Black man is crazy. I'm sick of it. It's ridiculous."

Warriors head coach Steve Kerr acknowledged Green's actions as a "habit" stemming from his competitive nature. Kerr explained that Green often "flails his arm" to draw fouls, which sometimes leads to contact and technical fouls. Kerr also noted that Green's intensity is a double-edged sword, contributing to his success but also pushing him over the line at times.

The Warriors ultimately lost the game 117-93, with Stephen Curry sidelined due to a hamstring injury. The loss also saw the Warriors score their lowest first-quarter playoff score since the 2016 NBA Finals. Game 3 of the series is set for Saturday night in the Bay Area. Green's history of technical fouls and suspensions, including a crucial suspension in the 2016 Finals, adds further weight to the situation.
