Doom: The Dark Ages on RTX 5090 Laptop: A Demon-Slaying Performance Review

Get ready to rip and tear, because *Doom: The Dark Ages* is looking fantastic! A recent hands-on experience with the game on an RTX 5090 gaming laptop reveals impressive performance and a visually stunning experience. This latest installment in the *Doom* reboot franchise takes players back in time, before *Doom (2016)* and *Doom Eternal*, to a medieval setting where the Slayer is bound to fight the forces of hell.

The reviewer played *Doom: The Dark Ages* on an HP Omen Max 16 laptop, equipped with an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX processor, an Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 24GB GPU, 32GB of RAM, and a 16-inch, 2560 x 1600, 240Hz OLED display. Testing was conducted at the highest graphic settings (Ultra Nightmare) at the native resolution.

Without DLSS, the game ran at a smooth 85 fps, exceeding the 60 fps target. The reviewer then tested DLSS 4, specifically DLAA, which enhances visuals while maintaining native resolution, resulting in 50 fps. Frame Generation (2x) boosted performance to 82 fps, while Multi-Frame Generation (4x) delivered a blistering 140 fps.

Further testing with DLSS set to Ultra Performance yielded 131 fps without frame generation, and a staggering 260 fps with Multi-Frame Generation (4x), showcasing the RTX 5090's power and the game's optimization. The reviewer noted the game's excellent optimization, a welcome change from some recent AAA titles that struggle on high-end hardware. The minimum spec requirement is an RTX 2060 Super or AMD RX 6600 GPU. Overall, the experience suggests that *Doom: The Dark Ages* will deliver a visually impressive and highly playable experience on powerful gaming laptops.
