Disney Announces Sequels for Summer 2028 Release

Disney has unveiled plans for two major sequels slated for release in the summer of 2028. The announcements were made at the company's annual shareholder meeting by new CEO Josh DAmaro, who recently took the helm from Bob Iger.

The first sequel, a follow-up to the live-action remake of *Lilo & Stitch*, is scheduled for release in May 2028, aiming to replicate the success of its predecessor. The original *Lilo & Stitch* remake grossed over $1 billion globally.

Following in June 2028, Pixar will release *Incredibles 3*. Peter Sohn, the director of *Elemental*, will direct the film, with Brad Bird, the director of the first two films, remaining as screenwriter and executive producer. *Incredibles 2* earned $1.24 billion worldwide.

DAmaro, who has been with Disney for 27 years, emphasized the studio's strategy of balancing original content with established franchises and sequels. While Disney is seeing success with original films like Pixar's *Hoppers*, which has earned $168 million in its first two weekends, the studio continues to rely on sequels to maintain its position as a leading force in the film industry. The company's recent successes include *Zootopia 2*, which became Hollywood's highest-grossing animated film, and the continued popularity of its streaming titles.

Disney's upcoming slate includes original films such as *Hexed*, *Gatto*, and *Ono: Ghost Market*, along with continuations of popular franchises. These include a feature continuation of *The Mandalorian*, a remake of *Moana*, a second *Devil Wears Prada*, a third *Frozen*, a fifth *Toy Story*, a sixth *Ice Age*, and the fifth and sixth *Avengers* films.

BNN's Perspective:

Disney's continued focus on sequels is understandable in the current market. While original content is crucial for innovation, the financial stability provided by established franchises allows the studio to take risks on new projects. The balance between these two approaches will be key to Disney's long-term success.
