Digg Relaunches, This Time Focused on AI News Aggregation
Digg, the once-popular news aggregator, has re-emerged, this time with a specific focus on artificial intelligence. The website, currently live at di.gg in its alpha phase, aims to curate and deliver the most relevant AI news, a field described by CEO Kevin Rose as the "noisiest, fastest-moving space on the internet."
Rose, who has returned to the company as CEO, emphasized the value of filtering through the overwhelming amount of information available online. Digg's mission, he stated, is to identify and present the most important signals within the AI landscape. The platform currently monitors 1,000 individuals involved in AI research, investment, and media, drawing from X's social graph. Notable figures included in the aggregation are Sam Altman, Elon Musk, and Jeff Dean.
This relaunch follows a previous attempt in January, which was quickly shut down due to an onslaught of SEO spam. The company admitted that it was unable to effectively combat the bots that flooded the website, rendering user votes and comments unreliable.
Rose has not detailed how Digg plans to address the bot problem this time. The company plans to eventually transition back to the digg.com domain, though the timing of this move, and the expansion to other news categories, remains uncertain. Rose had previously planned a comeback in 2025 with Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian, with the goal of restoring the spirit of discovery and community.
BNN's Perspective:
The renewed focus on AI news aggregation is a timely move, given the rapid advancements and growing public interest in the field. However, Digg's past struggles with spam and bot activity raise legitimate concerns about the platform's ability to deliver a trustworthy and reliable news source. The success of this relaunch will hinge on Digg's ability to effectively filter out misinformation and maintain the integrity of its content.
