Devin Harjes, the actor known for his roles in the acclaimed television series "Boardwalk Empire" and "Manifest," has tragically passed away at the age of 41. His representative, David Williams, confirmed to CBS News on Sunday that Harjes died due to complications from cancer.
Harjes was diagnosed with cancer last winter and was hospitalized at Mount Sinai West Hospital in New York City before his passing on Tuesday morning. Williams described Harjes as "an artist of great conviction" who poured his heart into every role. He also remembered Harjes as a generous, kind, and devoted individual, known for his love of animals and horseback riding.
Born in Lubbock, Texas, Harjes began his acting journey in college before immersing himself in the Dallas-Fort Worth theatre scene. He later relocated to New York City to further his career. His television debut came in the hit HBO series "Boardwalk Empire," where he portrayed Jack Dempsey. Harjes went on to appear in several other popular shows, including "Gotham," "Orange is the New Black," "Daredevil," "Elementary," and "Blue Bloods."
Harjes is survived by his parents, Randy and Rosanne Harjes, his sister Trish Harjes and her husband Justin Kelley, along with nephews, nieces, and other family members. His passing is a loss to the acting community, and he will be remembered for his talent and dedication.
