Danny DeVito Admits to "Lusting After" Michelle Pfeiffer on Batman Returns Set

In a candid conversation with Colin Farrell for Variety's "Actors on Actors" series, acting legend Danny DeVito, 80, revealed his feelings for his *Batman Returns* co-star, Michelle Pfeiffer. DeVito, who played the villainous Penguin opposite Pfeiffer's Catwoman, admitted he "lusted after" Pfeiffer during the filming of the 1992 Tim Burton-directed film.

DeVito described Pfeiffer as a "goddess," recalling the excitement he felt when he knew he'd be sharing a scene with her. Farrell, who played the Penguin in the HBO drama *The Penguin*, playfully questioned DeVito's preparation for those scenes, leading to a humorous exchange about makeup and feeling "flushed."

The actor clarified that while he, Danny DeVito, was attracted to Pfeiffer, it was his character, Oswald Cobblepot (the Penguin), who was doing the "lusting" in the film. He even suggested that Pfeiffer's Catwoman might have enjoyed the attention.

This isn't the first time DeVito has explored the dynamic between the Penguin and Catwoman. In 2021, he wrote a short story for DC Comics' *Gotham City Villains* anthology, which romantically paired the two characters.

During the interview, Farrell also asked DeVito if he would reprise his role as the Penguin. DeVito enthusiastically responded, expressing his love for the "operatic element" of *Batman Returns* and the character's passion. He even joked that his Penguin character would be content in his sewer kingdom "as long as I could get Catwoman to visit me every once in a while."

DeVito's career continues to thrive. He recently guest-starred on *Abbott Elementary* and will return as a main cast member in the 17th season of *It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia*, premiering July 9th on FXX.
