Cyberpunk 2077's Future: No More Expansions Planned
CD Projekt RED has confirmed that there are no further downloadable content (DLC) or expansions planned for *Cyberpunk 2077*. The announcement, made on Twitter in response to a fan inquiry, clarifies the game's future following the release of the *Phantom Liberty* expansion in September 2023. *Phantom Liberty* was well-received, achieving both critical acclaim and significant sales, with ten million copies sold by May 2025. The base game has sold over 35 million copies.
The developer has been actively updating *Cyberpunk 2077* in recent years, collaborating with Virtuos to introduce new features, including vehicle customization options like CrystalCoat and the long-awaited subway system.
The focus now shifts to the future, with the development of *Project Orion*, unofficially referred to as *Cyberpunk 2*. Details about *Project Orion* are limited, but it is expected to feature a new city, described by creator Mike Pondsmith as a "Chicago gone wrong." The possibility of multiplayer functionality, originally intended for the first game, is also being considered. No release date or window has been announced for *Project Orion*.
The announcement comes as fans eagerly await news regarding *The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt* and its rumored new DLC, which is reportedly connected to *The Witcher 4*.
*Cyberpunk 2077* is currently available on Game Pass, as well as on Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC, and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2.
BNN's Perspective:
While the news of no further expansions for *Cyberpunk 2077* may disappoint some fans, it allows CD Projekt RED to fully concentrate on the development of *Project Orion*. The success of *Phantom Liberty* demonstrates the potential for future projects, and the focus on a new title with potential multiplayer features could revitalize the franchise.
