U.S. Senator Cory Booker has married real estate executive Alexis Lewis, the New Jersey Democrat announced on Sunday. The couple exchanged vows in two locations significant to their lives: Newark, New Jersey, and Washington, D.C.

The legal marriage took place in a Newark courthouse on November 24th, officiated by Judge Julien Xavier Neals. The couple then celebrated with an interfaith ceremony and a family-only reception in D.C. The D.C. event was officiated by Reverend Dr. David Jefferson Sr. and Rabbi Matthew Gewirtz, both long-time friends of Senator Booker. Booker is Christian, and Lewis is Jewish.

Booker, 56, and Lewis, 38, reside in Newark, where Booker previously served as mayor from 2006 to 2013. The couple announced their engagement in September, having dated for approximately a year and a half. They were introduced by a mutual friend.

The proposal took place in Kauai, Hawaii, on August 24th. The couple’s first date was in D.C., and their second excursion included a Newark tapas restaurant, a Broadway show in New York City, and a walk in Newark where Booker shared places that shaped his life.

Lewis is a director of investments at Brasa Capital Management and previously worked for former Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti. She holds degrees from New York University and Cornell University.

The Newark ceremony included the couple's parents as witnesses. The families celebrated with Italian pastries and a vegan chocolate chip cookie dough cake. The D.C. ceremony included a blessing under a huppah.

The couple kept their wedding plans private until Sunday due to security concerns. The marriage comes eight months after Booker delivered the longest individual Senate speech in the chamber. He is considered a potential contender for the 2028 presidential election.
