Coco Gauff, Mirra Andreeva Advance to French Open Quarterfinals
The 2025 French Open is heating up as Coco Gauff and Mirra Andreeva have secured their spots in the quarterfinals. Gauff, the second-ranked American, delivered a dominant performance on Monday, defeating Ekaterina Alexandrova in straight sets (6-0, 7-5) on Court Philippe-Chatrier. This marks Gauff's fifth consecutive year reaching the quarterfinals, showcasing her consistent excellence at Roland-Garros.
Gauff's victory was marked by a clean game, with only 17 unforced errors and a strong serve, including three aces. She'll face fellow American Madison Keys (No. 8) in the next round, promising an exciting all-American clash. Gauff expressed her excitement about representing the United States and hopes to inspire young girls.
Meanwhile, Mirra Andreeva also advanced, defeating Daria Kasatkina in straight sets. Andreeva will face the winner of the Keys-Gauff match in the semifinals. The tournament has also seen upsets, with Lois Boisson of France ousting No. 3 Jessica Pegula.
On the men's side, Alexander Zverev of Germany advanced due to a retirement, and will face either Novak Djokovic or Cameron Norrie in the quarterfinals. Other men's quarterfinal matchups include Lorenzo Musetti vs. Frances Tiafoe, and Carlos Alcaraz vs. Tommy Paul.
The women's quarterfinals will continue Tuesday, featuring Aryna Sabalenka against Zheng Qinwen, and Iga Swiatek facing Elina Svitolina. Coverage of the quarterfinals begins at 5 a.m. EDT Tuesday on TNT and Max.
