Caitlin Clark Shines in Team USA Debut After Injury Return
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico - Caitlin Clark made a triumphant return to the court, leading Team USA to a decisive 110-64 victory over Senegal in the FIBA World Cup qualifiers. This marked Clark's first game action in eight months, following a right groin injury sustained while playing with the Indiana Fever in July.
Clark, who had been sidelined since September due to the injury and a subsequent bone bruise, showcased her skills with an impressive performance. She finished the game with 17 points, hitting 4 of 5 three-pointers, and dishing out 12 assists in just 19 minutes of play. Clark's impact was immediate, as she quickly racked up assists, demonstrating her playmaking abilities.
Coach Kara Lawson emphasized Clark's role as a facilitator, highlighting her dynamic play on the offensive end. Clark herself acknowledged the importance of playing with pace, a factor she aimed to bring to the team. She expressed satisfaction with her performance, stating that she felt back to her normal self within minutes of entering the game.
The game also saw the national team debuts of Paige Bueckers and Angel Reese. Bueckers contributed nine points, four rebounds, and three assists, while Reese added six points and eight rebounds.
Team USA has already secured its spot in the World Cup, scheduled for September in Germany, and will play four more games in the qualifiers.
