**Child Sex Abuse Allegations Rock New Pope Leo XIV's Papacy**

RadarOnline.com reports that the newly elected Pope Leo XIV, formerly known as Robert Prevost, is facing accusations of covering up child sex abuse within the Catholic Church. The Survivors Network of those Abused by Priests (SNAP) alleges that Pope Leo XIV "looked the other way" when confronted with allegations against priests during his time as a religious leader in Chicago.

The accusations center around Pope Leo XIV's actions while serving as provincial of the Augustinians. SNAP claims he allowed Father James Ray, a priest with a history of restricted ministry due to abuse allegations, to reside near a Catholic elementary school in 2000. They further allege that Pope Leo XIV failed to launch a proper investigation, provided inadequate information to Rome, and permitted the priest to continue celebrating mass.

SNAP filed a complaint with Vatican officials in March, before the death of Pope Francis, but has yet to receive a response. They are now demanding a thorough, public investigation and are calling on Pope Leo XIV to implement a zero-tolerance policy on sexual abuse and establish a reparations fund.

The controversy comes just days after Pope Leo XIV's election, and he is already facing scrutiny for his past criticisms of the Trump administration and Vice President JD Vance.

BNN's Perspective:

The allegations against Pope Leo XIV are deeply concerning and demand a thorough and transparent investigation. The Church must prioritize the safety and well-being of its members, especially children. While the accusations are serious, it's crucial to allow the investigation to run its course and avoid prejudging the outcome. The Church's response to these allegations will be a critical test of its commitment to justice and accountability.
