Chiefs Superfan "ChiefsAholic" Sentenced to 32 Years in Oklahoma Prison

Xaviar Babudar, the Kansas City Chiefs superfan known as "ChiefsAholic," has been sentenced to 32 years in an Oklahoma state prison for a bank robbery in the Tulsa area. The sentence, handed down on Monday, will be served after Babudar completes his current federal prison sentence for a string of other bank robberies.

The 30-year-old Babudar appeared in a Tulsa courtroom and expressed remorse for the December 2022 robbery of the Tulsa Teachers Credit Union in Bixby, Oklahoma. His attorney, Jay-Michael Swab, stated that Babudar took full responsibility for his actions. Babudar is already serving over 17 years in federal prison for robbing 11 banks across seven states, stealing nearly $850,000 to fund his social media persona. Swab attributed the robberies to a gambling addiction.

Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler had sought a life sentence, calling Babudar a "serial robber" who traumatized numerous victims. The judge, Michelle Keely, ordered the state sentence to run concurrently with the federal sentence. This means that after Babudar is released from federal prison, he will be transferred to state custody to serve the remaining 14 years of his Oklahoma sentence.

Babudar gained a large following on social media platform X (formerly Twitter) under the handle @ChiefsAholic, known for attending Chiefs games dressed as a wolf in team gear. His enthusiastic support for the team made him a recognizable figure online.

BNN's Perspective: While the actions of "ChiefsAholic" are undeniably criminal and deserve punishment, the severity of the sentence, particularly when combined with his federal time, raises questions. A 32-year sentence, even concurrent, seems harsh, especially considering the underlying issue of gambling addiction. While accountability is crucial, the justice system should also consider rehabilitation and the potential for reform.
