Chicken Alfredo Recall Issued Amid Listeria Concerns

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) has announced a recall of chicken Alfredo products sold at Kroger and Walmart stores nationwide due to potential contamination with *Listeria monocytogenes*. The recall, issued Tuesday, affects all products manufactured before that date.

The *Listeria* strain identified in the recalled products is the same strain linked to an ongoing outbreak that has resulted in three deaths and at least 17 illnesses across 13 states. According to the USDA, the outbreak has been ongoing since August 2024, with the most recent cases reported in May 2025. One fetal loss has also been associated with the outbreak.

The recall was initiated after the USDA's Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) isolated the outbreak strain from a routine sample of chicken fettuccine Alfredo collected in March 2025 from a FreshRealm establishment. While that specific lot of products was destroyed, purchase records from two individuals who became ill traced chicken Alfredo products to FreshRealm establishments. Two additional individuals verbally reported purchasing the recalled products.

The USDA is currently investigating the source of the *Listeria* contamination. The recalled products include "Marketside Grilled Chicken Alfredo With Fettuccine" in 32.8-ounce and 12.3-ounce packages, and "Home Chef Heat & Eat Chicken Fettuccine Alfredo" in a 12.5-ounce package. The products can be identified by the establishment numbers "EST. P-50784," "EST. P-47770," or "EST. P-47718."

Consumers are strongly advised not to consume the recalled products, which may still be present in home freezers. *Listeria* infections can cause serious symptoms, including fever, muscle aches, headaches, and neurological issues. The infection can be particularly dangerous for older adults, individuals with weakened immune systems, and pregnant women.

BNN's Perspective:

This recall underscores the importance of rigorous food safety protocols and the potential severity of *Listeria* contamination. While the ongoing investigation is crucial to identify the source and prevent further illnesses, consumers should remain vigilant and heed the USDA's warnings. The widespread distribution of these products highlights the need for continued monitoring and swift action to protect public health.
