CHHATRAPATI SAMBHAJINAGAR
: The Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University (Bamu) on Wednesday suspended approval for the Valmikrao Dalvi College for Arts, Commerce and Science in Shendra to function as an examination centre for the rest of the session.
The action has come against the backdrop of the institute facing charges of cash-for-rewriting answer sheets during the ongoing undergraduate (UG) exams.
Bamu public relations officer (PRO)
Sanjay Shinde
said UG students sitting for their exams at this hall have been shifted to nearby centres.
The three-member inquiry committee formed by the university visited the institute around 11am on Wednesday. The management and members of the teaching and non-teaching staff are deposing before the panel one by one, Shinde said.
The committee is expected to submit its report by April 11. This will form the basis of action against the college. The due procedure laid down as per law will be followed, he added.
The cash-for-rewriting exams allegations created ripples in varsity circles. Student union Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) on Wednesday held a demonstration against such poor conduct.
This is a new low in university functioning. The practice has exposed tall claims by Bamu of keeping a proper vigil during exams, said ABVP leader
Umakant Panchal
.
Stating that the incident in the Shendra college has demoralised the student community, ABVP has sought stern action against the guilty parties.
Whistleblower students alleged that candidates sitting for exams from the college in question were given answer sheets to rewrite for 30 minutes after paying Rs500 per subject, with the time span increased if more money is paid.
