AMC Entertainment CEO to Remain at Helm After Stroke

WASHINGTON (BNN) – AMC Entertainment announced Thursday that its CEO, Adam Aron, will continue to lead the company despite suffering a mild stroke last month. The 71-year-old executive experienced the stroke during a business trip in London and received immediate emergency medical attention.

According to the company, Aron is recovering quickly and has not shown any loss of cognitive brain function. AMC stated that Aron "remains in full command" and continues to fulfill his roles as Chairman of the Board, Chief Executive Officer, and President. He has maintained close communication with the AMC board regarding his recovery and the company's business matters.

The announcement comes as AMC navigates ongoing challenges. The cinema chain has yet to fully recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced theater closures and resulted in a $4.6 billion loss in 2020. While sales have gradually improved since then, the company has not yet recorded a full annual profit.

Furthermore, the rise of streaming services has put additional pressure on the cinema industry, as more people opt to watch movies and shows at home. AMC also experienced a surge in its stock price during the meme stock frenzy, with shares soaring from approximately $11 to nearly $340 in June 2021. However, the stock has since declined and is currently trading just above $2.

Aron also spearheaded AMC's foray into cryptocurrencies in 2021, accepting digital currencies for movie tickets and concessions. The company also issued non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to ticket buyers and shareholders that same year. As of the third quarter ending September 30, 2025, AMC reported having approximately 860 theaters and 9,600 screens worldwide.

BNN's Perspective: While the CEO's continued leadership is a positive sign, the company faces significant hurdles. The recovery from the pandemic, the shift to streaming, and the volatile stock performance all require careful management. The board's oversight will be crucial in ensuring the company's long-term stability and success.
