Cassie Testifies in Diddy Sex Trafficking Trial, Recounts 2016 Hotel Assault
In a high-profile sex trafficking trial, R&B singer Cassie, whose legal name is Casandra Ventura, continued her testimony against her ex-boyfriend Sean "Diddy" Combs on Friday. The trial, which began this month, centers around allegations of physical and sexual abuse. Cassie, the prosecution's star witness, recounted a violent 2016 incident at a Los Angeles hotel, where she was assaulted by Combs.
During cross-examination, Cassie read aloud text messages exchanged with Combs, including one where she stated, "I'm not a rag doll. I'm somebody's child," reflecting her emotional state after the hotel attack. The defense, led by attorney Anna Estevao, is attempting to portray Cassie as a willing participant in Combs' lifestyle, presenting texts that show expressions of love and enthusiasm for sexual encounters. However, Cassie has testified that she felt forced into these situations, fearing Combs' violence and threats to release videos of the encounters.
The trial also revealed a 2013 recording of Cassie confronting a friend who claimed to possess a video of her performing sex acts, where she threatened him with violence if the video became public. Combs, who has pleaded not guilty to federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges, maintains that all sexual activity was consensual. He faces at least 15 years in prison if convicted. The prosecution is aiming to conclude Cassie's testimony by Friday due to her pregnancy and the risk of her going into labor.
