Katie Phang Launches YouTube Channel with MeidasTouch After MSNBC Show Cancellation

Former MSNBC host Katie Phang is embarking on a new chapter in her career, launching a YouTube channel in partnership with the left-leaning media network, MeidasTouch. This move comes after her eponymous show, "The Katie Phang Show," was canceled earlier this year as part of a major shake-up at MSNBC.

Phang, a lawyer and legal analyst, announced her new venture on X (formerly Twitter), stating that her YouTube channel, "Katie Unleashed," will cover law, politics, and culture, featuring both familiar and new voices. She expressed excitement about joining MeidasTouch, calling it the "holy land of independent journalism."

MeidasTouch, known for its pro-democracy stance, praised Phang as a respected voice in both law and media, highlighting the collaboration as a step toward building a strong platform for independent journalism. The network's YouTube channel boasts nearly 5 million subscribers, while Phang's new channel already has a significant following, with almost 90,000 subscribers after its first post on Tuesday.

In her debut video, Phang was joined by MeidasTouch co-founder Ben Meiselas. Beyond YouTube, Phang has also launched a Substack account, where she shares commentary and interviews. She is also continuing her role as a legal commentator at MSNBC.

The cancellation of "The Katie Phang Show" in February was part of a broader restructuring at MSNBC, which also saw the axing of shows hosted by Joy Reid and Alex Wagner. Phang, who was proud to platform AAPI voices, revealed she was "stunned" by the cancellation. The network is also undergoing a spin-off from NBCUniversal and Comcast into a new entity called Versant Media.
