Browns GM Hints at Nick Chubb's Departure: Reunion "Increasingly Unlikely"

Cleveland Browns fans, brace yourselves. General Manager Andrew Berry has indicated that a reunion with star running back Nick Chubb is becoming increasingly unlikely. Speaking on Friday morning, Berry addressed the situation after the Browns bolstered their running back corps in the recent NFL draft.

Chubb, a beloved figure in Cleveland and currently third on the Browns' all-time rushing list, remains unsigned after seven seasons with the team. The Browns drafted Ohio State's Quinshon Judkins in the second round and Tennessee's Dylan Sampson in the fourth, signaling a potential shift in the backfield.

"I wouldn't rule anything out, but I would say that it's probably increasingly unlikely," Berry told 92.3 The Fan. He added that the team is looking to see how roles will develop with the current running backs, including Jerome Ford. While Berry acknowledged Chubb's importance to the team, he suggested a return is "less likely, at least in the short term."

Chubb, 29, is recovering from a severe knee injury sustained in Week 2 of the 2023 season. He returned for eight games in 2024, but struggled to regain his Pro Bowl form, recording career lows in several rushing categories. A broken foot in Week 15 further hampered his season. Berry confirmed that the foot injury has healed.

Before the knee injury, Chubb was a dominant force, earning four Pro Bowl selections and rushing for over 1,000 yards in four consecutive seasons, including a career-high 1,525 yards in 2022. Despite his recent struggles, Chubb boasts an impressive career average of 5.1 yards per carry, second only to Jamaal Charles in the Super Bowl era (minimum 1,000 rushes). The Browns' decision to draft two running backs, coupled with Berry's comments, strongly suggests that Chubb's time in Cleveland may be coming to an end.
