Breckenridge Bucks Ovsak helps South-Shanley win state hockey title

GRAND FORKS, N.D. Breckenridge native Sam Ovsak helped Fargo South-Shanley capture the 2023 NDHSAA State Hockey Championship on Saturday, Feb. 25, at Ralph Engelstad Arena. John Lang scored the game-winning goal in triple overtime to give the Bruins a 3-2 win over Grand Forks Red River.
The title is South-Shanleys first as a cooperative. Ovsak was instrumental in the teams historic season, racking up 25 points via 18 assists and 7 goals.
The high school junior plays town ball for the Breckenridge Bucks during the summer months. During the Bucks inaugural season in 2022, Ovsak appeared in 14 games, batting .260 with a .356 on-base percentage. He was fourth on the team with 12 runs scored.
Ovsaks sisters, Ivy and Holly, helped the Breckenridge-Wahpeton Blades girls hockey team win its first ever MSHSL playoff game this year.
