Student Assaulted Near School, Suspect Apprehended

Boston Police have apprehended a 32-year-old man, Seitu Morel of Cambridge, following an alleged assault on a middle school student near the Eliot School on Wednesday afternoon. According to a police report, the incident occurred around 3:20 p.m. near the school grounds.

The student, a 5th to 8th grader, was reportedly walking in the school parking lot when Morel allegedly shoved him to the ground, grabbed him by the neck, and punched him in the face. A student-teacher who intervened was also allegedly shoved to the ground. The student was taken to the hospital by a parent for evaluation.

Following the incident, police issued a community alert identifying Morel and stating he was wanted on multiple arrest warrants. These include a separate assault and battery and unarmed robbery that occurred on February 25th.

Officers were alerted to the situation by school administrators and located Morel near the Tip O'Neill Building. Authorities also reported that Morel had entered a charter bus and grabbed a bag belonging to a group headed to a Celtics game. The bag was recovered and returned to its owner.

The student's father told police his son recounted that Morel yelled at him to move out of the way before allegedly attacking him. The student-teacher, who witnessed the assault, confirmed the account, stating he was also pushed to the ground when he intervened. Several other witnesses reportedly verified the account of the alleged assault.

Boston Police are urging anyone with information regarding Morels whereabouts to contact District A-1 Detectives or anonymously via the CrimeStoppers Tip Line. They have also warned the public not to approach or contact Morel if seen, but to call 911 immediately.

BNN's Perspective: This incident highlights the importance of school safety and the need for vigilance in protecting our children. While it's concerning to see such violence near a school, the swift response of the police and the cooperation of witnesses are encouraging. It underscores the need for continued community efforts to ensure the safety of our schools and surrounding areas.
