Gearbox Prioritizes PC Performance in Borderlands 4 Patch
Gearbox, the developer of Borderlands 4, is releasing a patch today, September 18, with a primary focus on improving the game's performance on PC. The announcement comes in response to player feedback regarding the game's performance across both PC and console platforms.
The studio acknowledged the concerns raised by players and indicated that further patches are planned to address these issues. The upcoming patch is a direct response to the mixed reception the game has received, particularly on PC.
Initial analysis of Borderlands 4 on PC has revealed significant stuttering problems, with some experts advising against using the highest graphics settings. The game currently holds a mixed review rating on Steam, with many negative comments centered on performance issues.
Console players have also reported performance degradation over time, especially on more powerful consoles. Some players suggest this may be due to a memory leak. Gearbox has suggested quitting and restarting the game as a temporary solution.
In addition to the patch, Gearbox has released an Nvidia Optimization guide on Steam, offering players advice on optimizing graphics settings for improved performance. The studio has also advised players to allow at least 15 minutes of gameplay after changing graphics settings to allow shaders to recompile.
Gearbox chief Randy Pitchford has been actively addressing player complaints on social media. He has made various comments regarding the game's development, including the absence of a field of view (FOV) slider on consoles and the game's target audience.
BNN's Perspective:
While it's encouraging to see Gearbox actively addressing performance issues, the mixed messaging and some of the developer's public statements raise concerns. It's crucial that the upcoming patch delivers tangible improvements to player experience. The success of this patch will be critical in restoring player confidence and ensuring the long-term viability of Borderlands 4.
