Bluesky Introduces Drafts Feature in Latest Update

Bluesky, the social media platform, has rolled out a new drafts feature as part of its v1.116 update, allowing users to save and revisit posts before publishing. This addition, which became available starting Monday, addresses a frequently requested feature from its user base.

The new functionality allows users to compose posts and save them as drafts by selecting "Cancel" in the top left corner or by using a dedicated "Drafts" button located next to the "Post" button. Users can access their saved drafts by opening the composition window and tapping the "Drafts" button. From there, they can resume editing or delete drafts as needed.

The v1.116 update also includes enhancements to the mobile app, such as new welcome screen artwork and the autoplay of GIFs. However, the drafts feature is the most significant addition.

Bluesky had previously acknowledged the absence of basic features like drafts in a January blog post outlining its future plans. The platform also indicated its intention to introduce faster video uploads, longer video clips, and the ability to include more than four photos in a single post.

Despite the comparatively slow implementation of some basic features, Bluesky continues to experience growth. Its recent Transparency Report revealed a significant increase in its user base during 2025, nearly doubling from 25 million to 41 million users.

BNN's Perspective:

The introduction of drafts is a welcome addition for Bluesky users, bringing the platform in line with competitors. While the delay in implementing this and other basic features is noticeable, the platform's continued user growth suggests that it is still attracting users. Bluesky's focus on addressing user feedback and improving its core functionality will be crucial for maintaining its momentum in the competitive social media landscape.
