The biggest acquisition of the offseason for the New York Giants was when they acquired Tight End Darren Waller in a trade from the Las Vegas Raiders.
The trade, which most would consider low-risk, high-reward has Giants fans excited to see Waller take the Giants offense to the next level.
The move to acquire Waller doesnt move the needle for everyone, however. Bleacher Reports Alex Ballentine is selling Waller transforming the Giants passing game.
The Giants decision to trade for Darren Waller was a solid one. They only gave up a third-round pick and got a veteran tight end to bolster a group made up mostly of young players who havent done much yet.
But its best to temper expectations. Waller is 30 years old, has only played in 20 games over the last two seasons and averaged just 43.1 yards per game this season, his lowest total in four years.
That hasnt stopped the Waller hype train from going full steam ahead as he joins his new team in OTAs.
The Giants are going to need everything they can get out of Waller. The receiving corps remains a question even after they added Parris Campbell and Jamison Crowder through free agency and Jalin Hyatt in the draft.
Theres ample evidence Waller could be on the downswing, though.
Waller adds a dynamic talent that the Giants lacked in the passing game last season. They failed to add a No. 1 wide receiver this offseason, so Big Blue will rely on their new tight end heavily in 2023.
Many believe Wallers move from Vegas to the Giants will be a positive one both for his fantasy value and for his efforts to return back to Pro Bowl form.
Waller has looked good in OTAs so far and the Giants are hoping he can be a real difference-maker on the field when the season starts.
