**Florida Man Gored by Bison in Yellowstone National Park**

Yellowstone National Park saw its first bison-related injury of the year on Wednesday when a 47-year-old man from Cape Coral, Florida, was gored by a bison. The incident occurred around 3:15 p.m. local time, according to the National Park Service (NPS).

The NPS reported that the man sustained minor injuries after approaching the animal too closely. Emergency medical personnel treated him at the scene. The incident is currently under investigation.

Yellowstone National Park is home to a significant bison population, estimated to be between 3,500 and 6,000 animals. Bulls can weigh up to 2,000 pounds, while cows can reach 1,000 pounds. The park emphasizes the importance of maintaining a safe distance from these powerful creatures.

This marks the first bison-related injury reported this year. The NPS reported two such injuries last year and one in 2023. Since 1989, 25 people have been injured by bison in Yellowstone. The park also noted that only two people have died from bison encounters since 1872.

The NPS strongly advises visitors to stay at least 25 yards away from bison and other large animals, and at least 100 yards away from bears and wolves. The park's Instagram account humorously warned, "Bison may look friend-shaped, but they already have all the friends they want. Keep your distance and don't make it awkward." Bison are known to defend their space when threatened and have injured more people in Yellowstone than any other animal.
