Billy Joel Cancels Tour Due to Health Diagnosis: What You Need to Know

Music legend Billy Joel has been forced to cancel his upcoming tour, including all scheduled concerts through early July 2026, due to a recent health diagnosis. The Piano Man, 76, announced Friday that he has been diagnosed with normal pressure hydrocephalus (NPH), a brain condition that has been exacerbated by his recent performances. This has led to issues with his hearing, vision, and balance, prompting his doctor to advise him to refrain from performing and undergo physical therapy.

The canceled tour dates include a postponed April 2025 show in Milwaukee and a series of performances starting in July 2025 in Pittsburgh. The tour was originally slated to feature eight performances, many of which had been rescheduled to later this year or next year, culminating on July 3, 2026. The shows were planned across the U.S., with international stops in Canada and the U.K. planned. Fans who purchased tickets will receive automatic refunds.

NPH is a brain condition characterized by the buildup of cerebrospinal fluid, which cushions the brain and spinal cord. This excess fluid can disrupt brain function, leading to symptoms like balance problems, gait changes, memory issues, mood swings, and loss of bladder control. While relatively uncommon, it's most prevalent in individuals over 65. Fortunately, NPH is often treatable, typically through the implantation of a shunt to drain the excess fluid. Early diagnosis and treatment are crucial for a positive outcome.

The tour was set to feature guest appearances from music icons like Stevie Nicks, Rod Stewart, and Sting. While fans are undoubtedly disappointed, Joel expressed his sincere apologies and gratitude for their understanding, looking forward to returning to the stage when he is able.
