Bartow Man Sentenced to 30 Years in Prison for the Murder of His Infant Daughter

A Bartow, Florida man, Jacob Kubai, has been sentenced to 30 years in prison for the tragic death of his 4-month-old daughter. The sentence was handed down last month after Kubai, 23, pleaded guilty to aggravated manslaughter of a child.

The horrific incident occurred on February 23, 2024. Kubai brought his daughter, known as Strawberry, to Bartow Regional Medical Center. The infant showed no signs of brain activity and had sustained numerous injuries. Kubai claimed he found the baby unresponsive after feeding and placing her on her stomach.

However, the autopsy revealed a brutal reality. Strawberry suffered from 10 rib fractures, multiple blunt force trauma injuries to her head, and a swollen, hemorrhaged spine. The medical examiner determined the rib fractures were likely caused by squeezing, and the baby was struck in the head at least 10 times. Sadly, the infant died two days after being admitted to the hospital.

Investigators determined Kubai was the primary caregiver at the time, as the mother was working two jobs. The mother confirmed that the baby had no bruising before she left for work that day. Further investigation revealed inconsistencies in Kubai's story, including his claim of taking the baby to Walmart, which was not supported by surveillance footage. During questioning, Kubai reportedly showed no remorse, even stating, "None of this real," referring to his family.
