Grammy Nominations Announced: Bad Bunny Leads the Pack
The Recording Academy has unveiled the nominations for the 2026 Grammy Awards, setting the stage for a highly anticipated ceremony. The announcement, made Friday morning, highlighted a diverse range of artists vying for music's most prestigious honors.
Leading the charge is Bad Bunny, who has made history as the first Spanish-speaking artist to receive nominations in the three major categories: Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year. He is nominated for Album of the Year, Record of the Year, and Song of the Year for "DtMF." Other artists nominated for Album of the Year include Justin Bieber, Sabrina Carpenter, Tyler, the Creator, Lady Gaga, and Leon Thomas. The Record of the Year category features nominations for Sabrina Carpenter, Kendrick Lamar, Lady Gaga, Billie Eilish, Doechii, and Bruno Mars.
The Song of the Year category includes Gaga for "Abracadabra" and Kendrick for "Luther."
While many artists celebrated their nominations, some were left disappointed. Miley Cyrus and Ariana Grande, despite releasing visual albums, were not nominated in the Best Music Film category. However, both artists still received nominations. Ariana Grande is nominated for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for "Defying Gravity," and Miley Cyrus is up for "Best Pop Vocal Album" for "Something Beautiful."
The Best New Artist category recognizes emerging talent, with nominations for Olivia Dean, Katseye, The Marias, Addison Rae, Sombr, Leon Thomas, Alex Warren, and Lola Young. The Recording Academy has also introduced two new categories: Best Album Cover and Best Traditional Country Album.
For fans of Taylor Swift, her album "The Life of a Showgirl" is not eligible for the 2026 awards. The eligibility window did not include the album, but it will be considered for the 2027 Grammys.
The 2026 Grammy Awards ceremony is scheduled for February 1st.
BNN's Perspective: The Grammy nominations reflect the evolving landscape of the music industry, showcasing both established stars and rising talent. While the recognition of Bad Bunny's achievements is a significant milestone, the absence of some high-profile artists from certain categories highlights the subjective nature of awards and the competitive nature of the industry. The introduction of new categories demonstrates the Academy's efforts to adapt to changing musical trends.
